I race for the moments of joy. And I ...Hello Wayne

I race for the moments of joy. And I feel joy when I feel I am alive. And when you are pushing yourself thru an Ultra event (Tri or just running) it’s a feeling of life in every nerve, muscle and thought. It’s a moment when you have the opportunity to spend almost every second with yourself. A time to block out everything else in life, except my children. When I dig deep in my well of mental strength, I often think of my children. I am picturing them and their faces makes me keep on moving, even if my sense, if I got any sense, telling me to stop moving and just get some rest. The joy of participating in races of this level is also to be among others that are just doing the same thing that you are doing. If they have choosen to participate in something like this, they must be your soul mates. I love the feeling of being happy to see one of your friends crossing the finish line hours before you do. I can feel his or her feeling of relief. That’s a feeling of joy. I race to feel the freedom from boundaries. I will never win a race, but every time I am out there I am a winner. I am moving, and as long as I am moving I am alive. And to be alive is the gift you receive every morning you catch light. Another morning to move the boundaries of your own imagination. Imagine beyond the Iron. I didn’t before I dared.
Do your best and dare to live
StefanStefan Zetterströmhttp://www.stezett.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1773081917689181464.post-63405963618181611062011-03-04T01:38:11.655-05:002011-03-04T01:38:11.655-05:00Curious about the latest molecular science increas...Curious about the latest molecular science increasing endurance & recovery? I normally have a lower hr with the same effort with the use of my light weight shoes.

It's definitely a benefit, but for my racing especially for this year's DECA Ironman 262 mile run, will need the running shoes :-)

Thanks for the comments, always like to learn from others!

WayneUltraTrihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03363537776879418448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1773081917689181464.post-12492402115926895822010-01-21T20:08:56.905-05:002010-01-21T20:08:56.905-05:00" However, a big change that you will encount..." However, a big change that you will encounter with higher cadence is a higher heart rate."

A lot of barefoot-style runners actually find that their heart rate falls, even though they have higher cadence. Given that barefoot running is 4-5% more efficient than shod running, since you have less weight on your feet and are using the natural elasticity of your tendons for running, this result makes sense.

A friend I convinced to run in Vibrams called me from the gym quite concerned. He was doing his regular treadmill run in Vibrams for the first time. "My heart rate is 10 points lower! Is this normal?"

It's a nice side benefit.Tucker Goodrichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09455436946187786398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1773081917689181464.post-64350489093825230782009-12-16T01:03:37.321-05:002009-12-16T01:03:37.321-05:00Patick, thanks a bunch! It will eliminate the "nagging" soreness the next day in the quads especially when it'a a long and/or hard training day or race (and there is a lot of heat).

Personally, I never focussed on the post-recovery that much especially after a long event (sometimes for me it's difficult to consume solid food calorie) until a few years ago. I now have a specific post workout/race strategy that works for me and now live by it. I have not had serious recovery issues for years unless I miss one of the items from the recovery.

I use Recoverite (Hammer product - not here to endorse Hamme, just works for me) along with Amino Caps immediately after a tough workout or race. Also for a change, I use a combination of fresh fruit, Whey protein powder, almond milk and mix in a blender as an alternative to Recoverite.

You may be interested in what some of the European's used as post race nutrition during the DECA Ironman this year. Many of them (along with me) ate pizza with ground beef and/or sausage immediately after finishing. The key was to get calories as soon as possible and there was a larger focus on protein. I also used my normal recovery "products" as well. The calorie deficiency was tough to make up during the race so it became a speed eating contest as soon as each Ironman finished. One racer from Sweden (great friend) had his wife prepare 1 pound of beef (mixed with Mexican spices, etc.) every day and he started eating it immediately after crossing the line each day - it was shocking to me that his stomach could handle all the meat :-))

Generally, most athletes seem to be moving towards liquid focussed recovery drinks (many companies provide these products)vs. consuming solid foods. The digestion and absorbtion rates are much better with the liquid strategy.

My thought is to experiment with several strategies with the "right" combination of carb's, proteins, and fats and see how much you need to replace immediately to ensure that the next day's workout is not a struggle (I know we have all been there :-))

Hope this helps, if you have any more questions, send them over. I love this stuff as it's my passion and enjoy helping out and learning as well from other's experiences. If you have specific post race nutrition strategies, love to hear what's working and what's not, thx

WayneAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1773081917689181464.post-70879416773383612582009-12-14T23:18:10.403-05:002009-12-14T23:18:10.403-05:00great post! curious to know what you think of post...great post! curious to know what you think of post race/training day nutrition for recovery.
